Jalpa, Zacatecas - Arechiga and Chavez

  • Add
  • By Mercedes Chavez | Thu, 2007-03-29 21:15

I just returned from Jalpa, Zacatecas. As someone mentioned and I already
knew Jalpa records are skimpy....very skimpy. What I found out and yet to
verify. The Arechigas arrived in Jalpa at approx 1820, it was 7 brothers and one
sister from Spain. The Chavez arrived to Jalpa in approx 1880 from Ixtlan
Jalisco, there were two or three cousins Vicente Chavez Sanchez, Daniel Chavez
married to Emiteria Sanchez, a third possible cousin was Refugio Chavez.

I also got a book recently a professor on the story of Jalpa, if anyone is
interested, I can give title and email address to the professor at La Casa de la
    Cultura.

Juanita, I live in Los Angeles and Dr. Maloney is here is Santa Monica, hope
    your eye surgery went well.

Jalpa, Zacatecas - Arechiga and Chavez

    Dear Meche,

How exciting to just get up and go to Zacatecas!!!!!!! I went to Zac. on a tour, but didn't attempt to look up anything in the gov. agencies. I have a fax address back home in Texas, and will try to get more information through fax.

However, I had heard that it was not much easier to go to the places of interest. I would still like to do that, if only I were 10-15 years younger I would! I read the Chavez' on your tree, and sorry to say they don't ring a bell. I am looking for records way, way before the 1800's.

I will contact you through your e-mail.

    Juanita
